1. Who we are
Wealth Compare ("we", "us", "our") operates wealthcompare.co.uk, a financial benchmarking and comparison platform. For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), Wealth Compare is the "data controller" for the personal data described in this policy.
[Insert: registered company name, company number, and registered address once incorporated — required for a complete, compliant policy.]
2. What information we collect
| Category | Examples | When |
|---|---|---|
| Contact details | Email address, first name (optional) | When you unlock a free report, or create a Premium account |
| Financial profile data | Age band, region, income, outgoings, debt, savings, investments, pension, goals, risk tolerance, self-reported credit score band | When you complete the survey |
| Account data | Password (encrypted), subscription status, saved report history | If you create a Premium account |
| Payment data | Processed by our payment provider (e.g. Stripe) — we do not store full card numbers ourselves | If you subscribe to Premium or purchase a Deep Dive report |
| Technical data | IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited | Automatically, via standard website analytics |
If you complete the free survey but do not enter your email address, your answers are processed only in your browser and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers.
3. Why we collect it (our legal basis)
- Consent — for sending you marketing emails about your report, product recommendations, and Wealth Compare updates. You can withdraw this consent at any time (see Section 7).
- Contract — to provide the Premium service you've paid for, including your account, saved reports, and ranking history.
- Legitimate interests — to generate your free comparison report, to improve our benchmarking accuracy using anonymised/aggregated data, and to maintain the security of our platform.
- Legal obligation — to keep financial transaction records as required by UK tax and accounting law.
4. How we use your information
- To generate your personalised comparison report and send it to your email.
- To operate your Premium account, including tracking your ranking over time and pre-filling your survey if you upgrade from the free tier.
- To send you relevant product recommendations and marketing communications, where you've consented to this.
- To produce anonymised, aggregated statistics for our own benchmarking, and for B2B/white-label data products (see Section 5 — this never includes data that could identify you individually).
- To process payments for Premium subscriptions and Deep Dive reports.
- To respond to enquiries, complaints, or support requests.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers who help us run Wealth Compare — for example, our website hosting provider, email delivery provider, and payment processor. These providers are contractually required to protect your data and only use it to provide their service to us.
- Affiliate partners — only if you actively click through to one of their links from our site; at that point you are subject to their own privacy policy, not ours. We do not pass your survey data to affiliate partners automatically.
- B2B and white-label partners — only as fully anonymised, aggregated statistics (e.g. "median net worth for ages 25–34 in London"), never as data that could identify you. A minimum group size is enforced before any segment is included in an aggregate export.
- Legal and regulatory authorities — if we are required to by law.
6. How long we keep your data
| Data type | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Free survey response (no email given) | Not stored — exists only in your browser session |
| Free survey response (email given) | Until you ask us to delete it, or up to 36 months of inactivity, whichever is sooner |
| Premium account data | For as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterwards for legal/accounting purposes |
| Payment records | As required by UK tax law (currently up to 6 years) |
| Anonymised/aggregated statistics | Retained indefinitely — this data can no longer identify you |
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your data ("right to erasure") — for example, by unsubscribing or contacting us directly.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Data portability — receive your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent for marketing at any time, via the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 12. We will respond within one month, as required by law.
8. Cookies and similar technology
We use essential cookies/local storage required for the site to function (for example, remembering your progress through the survey). We may also use analytics cookies to understand how visitors use the site. [Insert specific cookie list and a cookie consent banner once the site is live on Wix — Wix provides built-in cookie consent tools that should be enabled.]
9. How we protect your data
We use industry-standard security measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), encrypted password storage, and access controls limiting who at Wealth Compare can view personal data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps appropriate to the sensitivity of financial data to protect it.
10. Children's privacy
Wealth Compare is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be highlighted on this page, with an updated "last updated" date at the top.
12. Contact us / complaints
For any questions about this policy or to exercise your data rights, contact us at: [Insert business contact email, e.g. privacy@wealthcompare.co.uk]
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk.
Important note: this policy is a structured starting template covering the standard areas required under UK GDPR. Before public launch, it should be reviewed by a qualified solicitor or data protection professional, with the bracketed placeholders above completed for your specific business details.
